On finally making it: Becoming another’s “psycho”
November 29th, 2006
I don’t spend a lot of time attacking other bloggers. And, given the modest readership of this blog, I don’t really expect to have others spend much time attacking me. So imagine my surprise when I accidentally discovered that Gagdad Bob, on his One Cosmos blog, found me worthy of a detailed critique. At least that’s what I think it was. Read Putting the “Psycho” in Psychoblogging and decide for yourself.
To whet your appetite, here are a few choice excerpts:
This morning I found a leftist psychoblog linked to dailykos, Psyche, Science, and Society, run by psychoanalyst Steven Soldz. It is a goldmine of leftist foolishness, cant, and cliché, and you understand in a second why this man would be linked to the breathtakingly infantile dailykos. This blogger vividly demonstrates the axiom that education has nothing to do with wisdom. More often than not, the two are inversely related….
[O]ne wonders why Dr. Soldz focuses only on our so-called projection of evil into the terrorists, but not on their projection of evil into us. After all, they started it. I promise to stop thinking they’re evil if they promise to stop trying to kill me. (By the way, you’d think Soldz might take a bit more offense at the idea that the terrorists also want to kill him merely for believing in “Jewish psychoanalysis.” After all, they’re not going to give him a pass just because he appeases evil. In fact, they probably won’t even extend the professional courtesy of killing him last.)…
Naturally, like all lying, agenda-driven leftists, Dr. Soldz willfully and misleadingly conflates torture with any number of techniques that do not deserve the term. But even then, what moral person would not waterboard a known terrorist to try to stop a massive terror plot?…
Imagine the mentality of someone who “cannot see” the 200 million souls murdered in the 20th century as a direct result of atheistic ideologies. They are “invisible” because they do not fit into the twisted template of his ignorance and bigotry. What an imbecile.
But on the positive side, I now have a ready source of inspiration when there’s nothing else to write about.
So I guess there’ll be a lot more coming. I’m glad to provide entertainment for, Gagdad Bob until he gets a life worth writing about. In the meantime, at least he spelled my name right. Oops, I take that back! He didn’t spell my name right. Oh well….

Dr. Soldz,
Yesterday a friend alerted me to this jihadi blogger.
Note the copious references to Qur’an and Hadith.
The truth that I see from here is that muslims hate us out of conviction and duty and never because of anything we have or have not done right or wrong.
http://inshallahshaheed.wordpress.com/tag/al-baraa/
Quote: “Rather, I have been repeatedly stating that we, as Muslims, are obligated to hate you for the sake of Allah because the fact is that you are non-Muslim; and if you can’t take it, then Alhamdullilah because one day, in the West, it will become extremely clear to the majority of who belongs to the Truth and who belongs to Falsehood. We will continue preaching the Truth until you feel like killing every single Muslim; and this has already started by the ones you worship the most: The Government. In fact, you worship your government more than you worship your own god – that is if you are a follower of a Religion. And only the people of understanding will know the truth in this.”

Ah isn’t it fun to be attacked in the blogosphere. It’s not the number of readers you draw; it’s the clarity of your message.
Do you know John Grohol of psychcentral.com? He went after me on his blog and then when I swung back with facts he threw a fit…
Anyway, keep it up. You’re doing important work.

He seems to write about his life all the time–and it’s a happy one, since he’s not mentally stuck in the material here-and-now and condemned to Nothingness after that phase of his existence ends. Whereas a perusal of your blog reveals a man very unhappy with the world ‘as it is’ since he sees nothing but the material present.

Gagdad Bob didn’t attack you- that would imply that you posed a threat to his beliefs and ideas. He exposed you- and made it evident that the ‘Emperor has no clothes.’
I have spent some time on this blog reading various entries and I have your website and read some of the links you offer up. It is quite clear your ideas pose no threat to anyone of substance- or anyone outside of academia.
In fact, Gagdad Bob was far too kind, as is his way.
I would not have been so generous.

Dr. Sold:
NOW you’ve done it.
Not only has Gagdad Bob got you in his sights, but SC&A have hove into view.
If they stick with this, I’m poppin’ corn.
I’ve never seen a “head-shrinker fist-fight” before.
BTW…(watch out for that left on Carl…I think he’s got brass knuckles in his mitt.).
You’ll be wantin’ a good “cut-man” for this.
Just sayin’

A fight between you and Gagdad Bob, ha I would love to see it..
I have read you occassionally and have been amazed at your lack of any clear compass morally or intellectually. Bob would leave nothing but a grease spot of you. Shut it down now while you have a chance to retain some dignity. Reality of Bob’s type would do you no good at all, maintain your illusions, RUN!!

Goodness, you have provoked some truly irrational hatred!
A moment of Self Reflection, not popular amongst those on the right, will demonstrate that: 1) The United States, via its military, CIA, and economic policy (e.g. sanctions on Iraq, Cuba) has been directly responsible for the suffering and death of far more people than any terrorist group, Muslim or otherwise. Vietnam alone takes care of that; 2) The US is currently reviled the world over for its policies of extreme violence, torture, and indefinite detention (as MLK put it, the greatest purveyors of violence in the world); 3) That focusing on the undeniable evil of those who chop off heads, murder innocents etc. is hypocritical and self-serving if it does not include the undeniable evil that the US commits itself.
Please continue your work, if only because it infuriates those whose hatred of Arabs and Muslims blinds them to the true nature of the causes they support.

Alejandro de la Fuente:
(Wasn’t that the name of the :love interest” on “The Flying Nun”?)
“1) The United States, via its military, CIA, and economic policy (e.g. sanctions on Iraq, Cuba) has been directly responsible for the suffering and death of far more people than any terrorist group, Muslim or otherwise. Vietnam alone takes care of that;”
Counterpoint: The National Socialist German Workers’ Party:40 million…amateurs.
The Communist Party of the Soviet Union :50-75 million…punters.
The Chinese Communist Party: God only knows how many millions of Chinese became landfill…hobbyists
Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge: 3 million dead…minor league base-a-ball.
It’s the AMERICANS who are the REAL terrorists, here, right?
Oh wait, I named parties that controlled governments as terrorist groups, and that’s not how you define a “terrorist group” is it?
Except when vomiting your diet of bullshit upon the AMERICAN government…then it’s alright…that’s different, isn’t it?
“2) The US is currently reviled the world over for its policies of extreme violence, torture, and indefinite detention (as MLK put it, the greatest purveyors of violence in the world); ”
Counterpoint: Name me a source of this revulsion that does not come from a land where the government either controls the press outright, or heavily subsidizes it.
This disgust you claim to hear emanates the loudest from places where if you don’t scream the party line loud enough and long enough, they take steps that ensure that you wil remain silent forever.
In lands that have a free press, there is much less noise and a lot more debate.
Or hadn’t you noticed?
“3) That focusing on the undeniable evil of those who chop off heads, murder innocents etc. is hypocritical and self-serving if it does not include the undeniable evil that the US commits itself”
Oh, goody! I love this part! The “Spanish Inquisition”…and on a Spaniard, no less!
Okay Alejandro, mi amigo, then it is time for your OWN “auto da fe”.
You point your greasy finger and shriek at US…now unburden yourself and confess to your own undeniable evil…your own bigotry…your own sexism…your own religious intolerance…your greed.
Spill yer guts, ace.
Claim your shame.
Otherwise, you’re nothing more than a shrill self-serving hypocrite…and this by your own standards.
Regards;

Hiya Dr. Soldz,
Prepare for the flood, they’re out there. I confess, ridiculing the psychospheric wingnuts got me into blogging this year, and I’m proud to take a little credit for their increasing and hilarious smackdowns throughout lefty blogtopia. So you just carry on with the good work you’re doing and know the snark is in good moonbat hands.

flawed plan:
“I’m proud to take a little credit for their increasing and hilarious smackdowns throughout lefty blogtopia.”
Excellent!
I’m sure you enjoyed the saga of Deborah Frisch, PhD,(UPenn) then.
(although she was a psychologist, and not a psychiatrist).
Oh waitadangminit….she was as Lefty, (or Secular-Progressive, if’n you prefer), as one could possibly be.
And who was the other big blowhard hoist on his own petard this year?
Glenn Greenwald,Esq. the “Sock-Muppetteer of the Left-o-sphere”.
Great year for the Left side of the Left-o-sphere!
Say…what is Ned Lamont planning to do with himself for the next half-dozen years, since he WON’T be occupying Senator Liebermann’s office?

Oy! Alejandro!
Were you deported, amigo?
Thought not…but just thought I’d check.
Wouldn’t want to accuse you of “ducking the catharsis” unjustly, y’know.
THAT would be as unfair as “driving-by” and “spraying the crowd” with accusatory hyperbolic assertions of collective and individual wrong-doing, both historical and contemporary, in order to deny and discount reasoned criticism and effective debate.
MY aim is much better than THAT…
Hey Dr. Soldz;
When does being an “iconoclast” bleed over into a diagnosable condition?
Care enough to share… he’s YOUR compadre, apparently.
