*dusty blog; sorry*

In <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/2007/200710/20071017.html" rel="nofollow">the October 17 edition of CBC Radio ''The Current''</a> there was an interview with Montgomery McFate, one of the creators of the Human Terrain Teams. Professor Gonzalez was included and spoke about the militarization of intellectual work.

This all reminds me of my first years in university, after a short stint in uniform. The early 70s ... Allende's democratically elected government overthrown with the active help of the industrialized nations put an end to my military career. I was perhaps shocked but not surprised when I was made aware by graduate students of how anthropologists and sociologists were having field work funded particularly easily and well when their projects assisted such as, for example, the destabilization and disruption of civil society in the headwaters of the Amazon when those forces strove to resist industrialization.

It's 2007 ... not much has changed ... but at least we remain aware of these dangerous under-currents. (And, with regards to cog-psych, at least we have for the most part shrugged off behaviourism!)

regards

Stephen,
Dr Disturbo I wish my Dad was still alive and working in Roslindale becasue I would have him stop by the Friends of Rosi meeting and personally tell you what a unique individual you really are. You probably are one of the intellectuals running around the Rosi Square on Washingotn Street waiting for the bus.

Stephen and Roberto.
My little conspiracy theorists. As we speak the governemnt is torturing insurgents by using loudspeakers and reading your dissertations to the Muslim Facists. After hearing your dissertations those guys are spilling their guts. Thank you for your contributions to the Global War on Terror. I would hate to hear your theory if you had invented penicillin. Get a life and thank the Soldiers that protect your freedom of speech no matter how obtuse.
